Bulgarian MEP Preslav Borissov (GERB / EPP) addressed the European Commission with a written question about the problems faced by road transport businesses involved in transportation between the EU and Turkey

Bulgarian MEP Preslav Borissov (GERB / EPP) addressed the European Commission with a written question about the problems faced by road transport businesses involved in transportation between the EU and Turkey The reason for the request of the Bulgarian MEP was the introduced by the Turkish government on September 1, 2013 fee of € 3,000 for transporting goods with "improper" permits and the frequent complaints of Bulgarian carriers that their trucks are detained by the Turkish authorities, in violation of the international conventions and the established practices.

According to the representatives of the professional organizations in Bulgaria the actions of the Turkish authorities are discriminatory and are aimed at restricting the access of Bulgarian companies to the Turkey freight market. In his letter to the European Commissioner for Transport Preslav Borissov (GERB / EPP) recalls that the problems associated with conducting traffic through the Republic of Turkey escalated in recent years and hinder trade between Turkey and the EU, leading to heavy losses for road transport of the EU and especially from Bulgaria, which are active on this market. Bulgarian MEP asked the European Commission whether it is aware of the situation and whether it follows the development, and what measures it intends to take to address the escalating problems.
